Luxury design & wine hotel with swimming pools in the Portuguese countryside

As a wine enthusiast, a holiday is too short to discover all the delicious wines, workshops, and other delights of this design hotel. A stay at Torre de Palma in Portugal means wine, rest, and romance.

Fancy a sunny getaway? A quiet, romantic getaway with your sweetheart to a country that knows how to appreciate a good glass of wine? Fancy something different from Italy? The Torre de Palma wine hotel in the village of Vaiamonte (Monforte) is the answer!

Inspired by the traditional lifestyle of the prominent Basilii family (former inhabitants of the Roman ruins of Torre de Palma) and local customs, the remnants of this ancient house were transformed into a design hotel in 2014. This beautiful five-star hotel is located in the heart of the historic Alentejo wine region, and you will undoubtedly depart head over heels in love - with each other and the region.

This is truly a House of Hideaways accommodation that immerses you in the discovery of the secrets of the real Alentejo. For example, those gastronomic and organic farming workshops will leave you wanting more. As will the wine dinners, grape harvesting, stargazing for hours, horse riding, bird watching, walking and cycling in the beautiful surroundings.

For the wine lover and connoisseur, this Portuguese wine hotel is also a true paradise. From vineyard to wine cellar, barrel room, and tasting room: you can follow the whole process here. Combine such a wine experience with a restaurant that serves the tastiest Portuguese dishes, a spa and wellness that makes you leave reborn, and a riding school with real Lusitano horses... and your holiday is complete!

Paulo Barradas Rebelo & Ana Isabel Rebel

When a few pharmacists with a passion for wine, design, horses, and authentic local experiences set their sights on opening a hotel, a paradise full of history was created. Want to know more about the origins of Torre de Palma? Owners Paulo Barradas Rebelo and Ana Isabel Rebel climb to the top of the tower every evening to watch the sunset and chat about their experiences and the rich history.

Each room has a unique design

All rooms are unique, simple, and elegantly furnished. Every room/suite is fully equipped, with amenities such as a queen-size or king-size bed, air conditioning, underfloor heating in the bathroom, Portuguese Castelbel facilities, an iPod dock, and an LCD HD TV. But secretly, you don't want to spend too much time in your room because there is so much more to discover!

    Winery

The wine estate is located in Monforte, in the heart of the Alentejo wine region. The climate of the Serra de São Mamede and the natural way of winemaking results in delicious wines, in harmony with nature. Look forward to a good bottle of red or white from various (local) grapes, such as Aragonez, Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional e Tinta Miúda (for the red wines) or Antão Vaz, Arinto and Alvarinho (for the white wines). They make wine here in a traditional and artisanal way, which means you can participate in every step of the winemaking process. That is, if you want to.

    Architecture and interior

Inspired by the old estate, the renowned architect João Mendes Ribeiro has preserved the original structure. The new buildings around the tower have been built to the old design, featuring concrete skeletons, brick walls, and concrete slab roofs. Both the lounge and the Basilii restaurant in the old house have been decorated by Rosarinho Gabriel and serve as a tribute to the prominent family who once lived in the Roman villa. The Alentejo countryside plays the leading role here, combining carefully chosen vintage furniture, different wood structures against whitewashed walls, and objects like sewing machines and old bottles.
