Beautiful castle hotel in Bolzano with outdoor swimming pool, top restaurant and spa

Without blinking an eye, Castel Hörtenberg is one of the best-kept secrets of the Italian province of South Tyrol. This luxurious and age-old refuge is located near the center of Bolzano, has a beautifully landscaped garden with an outdoor swimming pool, a wine collection that is truly impressive, a top-notch restaurant and a spa, where you can wonderfully relax in between discoveries. In short, everything you need for a few fantastic nights away with your lover!

The fairy-tale-like Castel Hörtenberg was the residence of the Italian nobility for over 500 years, but a few years ago it came into the hands of the Podini real estate family. The moment they took possession of the keys to the property, father Alex entrusted his youngest daughter Anna to transform the castle completely according to her wishes and insights into a luxurious abode, where guests feel at home, while being completely pampered.

Anna successfully accomplished this task, because right upon entering the hotel, you can fully experience and admire Anna's effort. To start with the interior: all rooms reveal a fantastic mix between old and modern. In addition, there is a relaxed atmosphere and the skilled and hospitable staff knows how to strike the right chord, without being too formal.

Thanks to its ideal location near the center and the many hiking and cycling trails nearby, Castel Hörtenberg is the ideal starting point for an exploration in South Tyrol. Lace up your hiking boots and wander through the cobbled streets of the charming center of Bolzano or take the Kohlerer Bahn, about 10 minutes away, and make beautiful hikes high up in the mountains.

But if you prefer not to leave Castel Hörtenberg, we completely understand. At this special place, you can really unwind and there is plenty to do: swim and devour books in the garden, try tongue-pleasing dishes in the restaurant or let yourself be pampered in the beautiful spa, where you can dive into the sauna and hammam and book various massages and treatments.

    Anna Podini

When the real estate family Podini bought Castel Hörtenberg a few years ago from Baron Fuchs, the former owner, the youngest daughter Anna was given responsibility for the renovation project. Together with her father Alex, she oversaw every step of the project and, with a team of architects, gave the castle a contemporary allure, without detracting from the history of the 500-year-old building.

    Modern and industrial

Castel Hörtenberg is an exclusive retreat, where the atmosphere of bygone times and contemporary elegance seamlessly blend together. This is also the case in the luxury rooms and suites of this special hotel, where old details are still visible here and there, but the interior is mainly very modern. For example, you see sleek lines and industrial accents, and there are technical gadgets like a smart TV, wifi, and a minibar.

    The Cantina Hörtenberg

The Cantina Hörtenberg is a fantastic place for lovers of gourmet cuisine. The kitchen team at this atmospheric restaurant promises you an evening where unique flavors and aromas are perfectly combined with one of the many wines from the impressive wine cellar, which is actually located in the former dungeon of the castle.
