Luxury hotel with swimming pool and a passion for art & design in the vibrant Porto

Immerse yourself in art, taste Portuguese cuisine at the Digby restaurant, or relax on the terrace with a breathtaking view of the Douro. A stay at the five-star hotel Torel Avantgarde means enjoying, enjoying, and enjoying again.

Five-star hotel Torel Avantgarde has won several World Luxury Hotel Awards. Well, then you know; this will be an unforgettable stay in Porto! You will enjoy a hotel like this for a long time and, of course, the anticipation is just as fun.

The charming hotel has 47 brilliantly furnished rooms and views of the Douro river flowing through Porto. Torel Avantgarde is a hotel where your comfort is the main focus. Imagine soft, hand-woven carpets beneath your feet when you jump out of bed, cuddly bathrobes hanging ready for you, and excellent beds that you secretly don't want to leave. At Torel Avantgarde, you are truly pampered.

It's no surprise that Avant-garde plays a major role in the hotel. The building in which the hotel is located originates from the Estado Novo, i.e., the 1940s. Just like Avant-garde artists, they wanted to make something completely new at Torel Avantgarde. A pleasant place where art is not the cherry on top but the main character. This makes the hotel a paradise for art lovers; a place that breathes art and where you can feel the artist's passion. The hotel is so beautiful that you immediately want to revamp your entire home. What inspiration!

The hotel was inspired by artists and performers such as Francis Bacon, Charles & Ray, Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso, Nina Simone, and Alberto Giacometti. From the black, white, and coral tones in the Coco Chanel room to bright colors in the Andy Warhol room; all 47 rooms are unique. For these extraordinary rooms, they worked together with 4 Portuguese artists - all from Porto. Jorge Curval, Frederico Draw, Daniel Eime, and Paulo Neves. From the outdoor space to reception, restaurant, and rooms; they’ve revamped every corner with a splendidly beautiful result. Look at those rooms, what beauties!

Sip some wine on the terrace, pamper yourself with a day at the Balsamea spa complete with a gym, hammam, and massages, or take a dip in the outdoor pool with an incredible view! In short; enjoy a relaxing stay in Porto.

    Relax

To escape the bustle of the city, you can retreat to the outdoor pool of this luxurious House of Hideaways accommodation. Here you can daydream on one of the soft sun loungers while enjoying spectacular views of the Douro and the city of Gaia. By the way, this is also the ideal place to start your morning. Swim a few laps before or after breakfast with that impressive skyline in the background and you'll have enough energy for a new day in Porto!

    Artist's Rooms

Each room is named after a painter, writer, designer or musician, and reflects their personality. Everything, from the wooden floor to furniture and lighting, is designed and made in Portugal. The comfortable king-size beds and good insulation ensure you sleep wonderfully. And the marble-clad bathrooms with rain showers are not only a pleasure to use, but also a feast for the eye. Ask for the Coco Chanel premier suite with a private glass hot tub (including a view of the river) or the Frida Kalho room with a four-poster bed.

    Eat and Drink

Of course, a visit to Portugal is not complete without typical Portuguese food accompanied by matching wines. The hotel restaurant, with a sunny terrace and a view of the river, is a delightful place for breakfast or a cocktail at sunset. The breakfast consists of fruit, yogurt, homemade pastries, and various egg dishes. In the evenings, the tasting menu is highly recommended. Or opt for the shellfish bisque with a hint of paprika or the sea bass with prawns. The wine list is quite extensive, including a number of lesser-known boutique wines from Portuguese wineries.

    Focus on art

The location of the hotel is also a big plus. Torel Avantgarde is situated high on a hill overlooking the tasks to the Douro River. Yet the hotel is only 800 meters from the fantastic center of the Baixa district, making the hotel an ideal base for exploring Porto. Don't feel like 'climbing' back to your hotel room? Why not just take a taxi uphill? Go for it!
