Stylish alpine stay at this luxury design hotel in the Jungfrau region

High above the dramatic valley of Lauterbrunnen lies the charming mountain village of Wengen. This car-free village at 1274 metres altitude is one of the most beautiful bases for exploring the Jungfrau region. Here you wake up to views of iconic Alpine peaks such as the Jungfrau, Silberhorn and Schilthorn, surrounded by fresh mountain air and breathtaking nature. In this exceptional setting you will find Grand Hotel Belvedere, where classic alpine charm meets contemporary comfort. The journey to Wengen begins in Lauterbrunnen, the famous Lauterbrunnen Valley with its dramatic cliffs and numerous waterfalls, including the iconic Staubbach Falls. From the valley, a historic rack railway takes you up to the car-free mountain village of Wengen in around twelve minutes.

    Arriving in car-free Wengen

As soon as you arrive, you notice the fresh mountain air and the calm atmosphere of the Alps. Here you find a charming village with a relaxed feel and a lovely selection of restaurants, cafés and small boutiques. Grand Hotel Belvedere is located just outside the centre, within walking distance of the village centre, the train station and the mountain lifts that take you further into the Alps. The hotel’s electric shuttle will pick you up at the station and bring you directly to the hotel.

Grand Hotel Belvedere consists of two historic buildings that have been carefully renovated. The interiors combine traditional alpine architecture with a calm, refined style. Warm materials, artisanal details and soft tones reflect the heritage of the Bernese Oberland, while modern touches add comfort and elegance.

The rooms and suites are spacious and filled with natural light, often featuring balconies overlooking the Jungfrau. The landscape constantly changes with the light throughout the day, from clear morning skies to golden evening sunlight on the mountain peaks. Families can choose interconnecting rooms or spacious suites with a separate seating area.

A contemporary take on mountain dining

At Brasserie Belvedere, the classic mountain brasserie receives a contemporary interpretation. The kitchen works with alpine ingredients and serves creative dishes in a relaxed atmosphere. The dinner menu features both refined plates and approachable classics. Be sure to try the burger or the traditional Alpine macaroni, a beloved mountain speciality.

For lunch, light bites or an aperitif, the Sonnenbad terrace is a wonderful place to settle in. Here you can enjoy lighter dishes and alpine classics while taking in the mountain views. The Bergwald Bar and Belvi Salon are also inviting spots for a glass of wine or a cocktail after a day outdoors.

Unwinding in the Susanne Kaufmann spa

The spa at Grand Hotel Belvedere is designed as a peaceful place to unwind after a day in the mountains. You will find a sauna, steam bath and several pools where you can fully relax. The indoor and outdoor pools overlook the surrounding peaks, making the wellness experience particularly special. Treatments are carried out using the natural products of Susanne Kaufmann, known for their high-quality alpine ingredients.

In the heart of the Jungfrau region

The Jungfrau region is one of the most impressive mountain areas in Switzerland and forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage site Jungfrau-Aletsch. From Wengen, you can easily explore some of the most beautiful villages and landscapes of the Bernese Oberland. Across the valley lies the car-free village of Mürren, dramatically perched on a mountain ridge with sweeping Alpine views. In the Lauterbrunnen Valley you can walk along steep rock faces and past 72 waterfalls, including the iconic Staubbach Falls, while nearby Grindelwald is famous for its impressive views of the Eiger north face.

In winter, one of Switzerland’s most beautiful ski regions lies right on the doorstep. From Wengen you can ski towards Kleine Scheidegg, where the slopes stretch towards Grindelwald and the Jungfrau massif. The ski areas around Mürren–Schilthorn and Grindelwald First are also easily accessible and offer an impressive variety of pistes and alpine panoramas.

In summer, the region transforms into a paradise for hikers. Panoramic trails lead through alpine meadows, past mountain lakes and traditional huts, while mountain trains effortlessly bring you to spectacular viewpoints. From here the famous train to the Jungfraujoch departs, taking you to more than 3,400 metres above sea level, surrounded by glaciers and eternal snow.

Wengen itself is a charming alpine village with a relaxed atmosphere, lovely restaurants, cafés and small boutiques. It is exactly this combination of village charm, fresh mountain air and dramatic nature that makes the Jungfrau region so special.

Grand Hotel Belvedere offers a stylish and peaceful base from which to discover this iconic alpine region.
