Intimate boutique hotel with cocktail bar in the heart of historic Ghent

The centrally located 1898 The Post features 38 elegant suites that are the perfect base for a city trip to Ghent with friends or your love. Enjoy dishes from grandmother's recipe book in 'The Kitchen' and end the day with a surprising cocktail in the trendy cocktail bar 'The Cobbler'.

This small, magical design hotel opened its doors in 2017 on the top floor of the old post office in Ghent. As you might guess, this provides the most beautiful views of the historic city. Considering the location, right in the heart of the center between the Graslei and the Korenmarkt, 1898 The Post is indeed an ideal House of Hideaways accommodation for a city trip with friends or your love.

The 38 rooms and suites in this post office from 1898 are elegantly and warmly decorated, with high ceilings, dark green walls and antique furniture that perfectly fits with the 19th-century architecture of the building. The rooms and suites range from 20 to 65 m² and each offer a stunning view of the city.

'The Kitchen' is a cozy, intimate space with a fireplace and one of the most picturesque views of Ghent. It certainly invites you to start your day in the best possible way with a homemade breakfast or to join in the afternoon for a traditional afternoon tea, with homemade cakes. In the evening, the chef prepares delicious dishes from grandmother's recipe book. The cherry on the cake - or in your drink in this case - is the cocktail bar The Cobbler, named after a cocktail shaker. Sip your drink here with a view of the towers of historic Ghent. Unforgettable!

    Cocktails, terraces and gastronomy

The cocktails of the in-house cocktail bar The Cobbler - with a view of the towers of historic Ghent - are unforgettable, but not only this design hotel's cocktail bar is perfect for a celebratory drink. From your hotel room, you are on the cosiest terraces for an aperitif by the water in no time. You also walk to the gastronomic recommendations of the Flemish city, such as restaurant Belga Queen or the atmospheric brasseries on the Graslei and Korenlei, in a few minutes.

    Private terrace above the Korenmarkt

Will it be The Stamp, The Envelope, The Letter or The Carriage? Or are you going for the ultimate - The Loft - including your own writing desk, library, and seating area? We would know. The more luxurious suites indeed have their own terrace above Korenmarkt where you can toast very romantically overlooking the Sint-Michielsbrug. No private terrace, but still enjoy the view? That's possible in the little tower on the Graslei.

    Monumental Post Office

Prepare yourself for a stay full of awe-inspiring moments. It all starts with the beautiful building in which you'll be staying; the monumental post office building, as they nicely say in Flanders, on the Korenmarkt of Ghent. Let's step back in time for a moment. Dream yourself back to 1898, when the post office was built. Think marble staircases, high corridors and windows, beautifully wooden floors... and antique furniture everywhere. This dream becomes a reality at 1898 The Post.

    Back in history

The old post office on the Korenmarkt is in good company, with the Corn Measurer's House, the Guild House of the Free Sailors and the Nail on the Graslei. All buildings with their own history. The medieval port of Ghent is the place to be and a perfect location to discover all the beauty of the city. Can you already see yourself relaxing on the terrace or by the waterfront?
