A romantic escape at a small adults-only boutique hotel in Lisbon

In the elegant district of Lapa, one of Lisbon’s most refined and green neighbourhoods, you’ll find Tarabel Lisbon. The hotel is set among beautiful villas, wide tree-lined avenues and embassies, with views stretching towards the Tagus River and the city skyline. From Lapa, you can easily walk to trendy cafés and restaurants, yet the area feels noticeably calmer and more residential than the busy city centre. The well-known districts of Bairro Alto and Chiado are close by, just a few minutes away by tram or taxi, while a pleasant walk through Lisbon’s streets and squares takes you straight into the heart of the city. It’s a location that offers the best of both worlds: the tranquillity of a charming residential neighbourhood and the energy of a vibrant capital within easy reach.

    A townhouse full of charm

The mansion has been restored with respect for its past. French designer Rose Fournier created interiors filled with rattan chairs, vintage furniture, ceramics, and art objects. The style is romantic and eclectic yet understated – soft tones, natural materials, and thoughtful details that invite you to linger and discover.

    Nine unique rooms

Each of the nine rooms and suites has its own personality. Some are cozy and atmospheric, others spacious with high ceilings and French doors opening onto balconies or terraces. Bathrooms are highlights in themselves: freestanding bathtubs, marble sinks, or walk-in showers finished in natural stone. The atmosphere is intimate and personal, as if you’re staying in a stylish residence rather than a traditional hotel.

    Dining at Tarabel

Dining here is an intimate affair. Meals can be enjoyed wherever you choose – in the lounge, the garden, or under the veranda. The menu changes with the seasons and highlights Portuguese traditions with a modern twist. Sample dishes include tuna tartare with tomato consommé and basil oil, creamy Portuguese rice with prawns, or line-caught sea bass with celery purée and citrus. Meat lovers might find Iberian pork with clams and port jus, while desserts could feature a chocolate moelleux with hazelnut ice cream or a tartelette with red fruits and vanilla. Breakfast is a generous buffet with breads, fruit, cheeses, and Lisbon’s iconic pastel de nata.

    A Mediterranean garden with pool

The terraced garden is the soul of Tarabel Lisbon. With its turquoise pool, rattan sunbeds, and lush greenery, it feels like a coastal retreat in the middle of the city. Breakfast is often served outdoors in the sunshine, afternoons invite refreshing dips, and evenings end with a glass of wine under the stars.

    Calm and elegance

As an adults-only retreat, Tarabel Lisbon radiates serenity. It’s not just a place to stay, but a townhouse where historic grandeur, thoughtful interiors, and fine dining combine in an atmosphere of elegance and ease.
