Slow living between nature, design and the quieter side of southern Italy
Hidden among the hills of Cilento, close to Paestum and the Tyrrhenian coast, lies Il Cannito. This small-scale hideaway feels like a peaceful alternative to the busier Amalfi Coast. There are no crowded boulevards or mass tourism here, only silence, Mediterranean nature, long dinners under the trees and a landscape where life moves at a slower pace.
Il Cannito was created through the restoration of an ancient stone residence surrounded by nature. Original stone walls, wooden ceilings and terracotta floors are combined with minimalist interiors, art objects and handmade ceramics. A love for craftsmanship and creativity can be felt throughout the property. Many of the objects are handmade, giving the house an artistic, almost bohemian atmosphere while still feeling refined and understated.
With only a handful of suites, Il Cannito feels intimate and personal. Large windows bring the landscape indoors, while natural materials and soft tones create a calming atmosphere. Some suites feature private terraces or views stretching across the hills towards the sea.

A place where nature, art and ceramics come together
Mornings unfold slowly here, with breakfast served beneath old oak trees and tables filled with local produce, homemade cakes, fresh fruit and Italian coffee. During the day, everything revolves around slowing down: reading by the pool, walking through nature or simply enjoying the quiet surroundings.
Food also plays an important role in the Il Cannito experience. The kitchen works with local ingredients from Cilento, a region known as the birthplace of the Mediterranean diet. Cooking classes are regularly organised, where guests learn to prepare traditional recipes using products from the surrounding area. Think fresh pasta, local olive oil, herbs and simple dishes built around pure flavours.

The quieter side of the Amalfi region
The location is one of the things that makes Il Cannito so special. Cilento is often seen as the more authentic and peaceful alternative to the Amalfi Coast. Here you’ll find empty beaches, small fishing villages, winding coastal roads and landscapes filled with olive trees and Mediterranean herbs.
From Il Cannito, you can easily visit the impressive temples of Paestum, take road trips along the coast or discover hidden beaches and villages where life still feels wonderfully traditional. The nearby Cilento National Park also offers endless opportunities for hiking and exploring the region further.
A place to slow down
Il Cannito is not about traditional luxury, but about calm, simplicity and genuine attention to detail. Everything feels personal and created with care, from long breakfasts beneath the trees to homemade dinners and the warm hospitality of the family. With only a handful of suites and a strong sense of privacy, slow living comes naturally here: slow mornings, long evenings outdoors, cooking, nature and a feeling that time matters a little less.
It is a place where nature, art, ceramics and gastronomy come together effortlessly. Small-scale, creative and hidden among the hills of southern Italy.
