Wine estate with self-catering villas featuring terrace and/or private pool on the French coast
Situated atop a hill and surrounded by vineyards, less than 3 km from the sea, you'll find the magnificent Château Capitoul in the French Occitanie. This 19th-century French castle is located on a 245-hectare estate in the midst of unspoiled nature. Like the finest wines, this accommodation is a blend of purely the best ingredients. Think the facilities of a luxury hotel, the privacy of a holiday home, the authenticity and charm of times gone by, and the relaxed yet professional service of the on-site team. Opt for the space and privacy of a luxury villa with stunning views over the vineyards and lagoon, and enjoy the many on-site hotel facilities. This place is perfect for families!
Within the vast grounds of Château Capitoul, you will find all the facilities needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The castle itself has a comprehensive spa and also houses Mediterraneo, the fine dining restaurant. On one side of the courtyard is the winery and shop, and next to it the lively Asado restaurant, with its spectacular terrace. The estate's villas are scattered across the hills, all featuring private gardens, terraces, and many even have a private pool. Furthermore, you will find a tennis court, a stunning infinity pool, an outdoor bar, and a large terrace.
Wine connoisseurs and lovers of culinary delights are well catered for during their stay at Château Capitoul. The two restaurants each have their own unique ambiance, and the chef creates a special experience every evening. The homemade Grand Cru wines are also an icon in the region. Need some relaxation? In the castle's basement you will find a spa and wellness area with treatment rooms, a solarium, pool, hot tub, aromatherapy sauna, and hamman.
All in all, Château Capitoul is a delightful place for families with children. There is plenty to do for everyone on the extensive estate and there are many possibilities in the vicinity as well. Not far from the estate, you will find the coast with various resorts and long sandy beaches where you can sunbathe, stroll, or take a refreshing dip. The beautiful city of Narbonne is also nearby.
When parents need some much-needed rest, there are a kids club and babysitting services specially for the little guests. In this way, it's really a holiday for everyone.
Luxury hotel rooms and characteristic villas
In the castle, you will find eight elegant rooms and suites that together form a perfect mix of classic French style and art deco. From vintage chandeliers and mirrors, comfortable beds and freestanding bathtubs to luxurious linen and spectacular views. Would you prefer a villa with all the necessary facilities? That's also a possibility. The villas are full of character, inspired by local architecture. The refined interior features a blend of old and new, with unique details, luxury kitchens, and spacious bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. Outside, you'll find large terraces and many villas have heated private pools.
Wander through the gardens
With a stunning view over the lagoon, including its many flamingos, the gardens of Château Capitoul were specially designed by landscape designer James Basson, a four-time Chelsea Gold winner. For this creation, James collaborated with the legendary botanist Olivier Filippi. In the beautiful gardens, you will find more than 100 species of plants, including oaks and Aleppo pines, interspersed with wonderfully fragrant species such as lavender and rosemary. A true delight for all your senses!
In the original dining room of the castle, you can enjoy an intimate, gastronomic experience at Mediterraneo. Chef Valère Diochet takes advantage of the incredible amount of local and fresh products from the area and creates mouth-watering dishes with a Mediterranean touch. At Asado restaurant, it's all about the wood-fired grills and ovens. Here, local fish and meat varieties take center stage, served with seasonal salads and vegetables from their own garden.
Activities in Languedoc
The Languedoc region stretches along the Mediterranean coast, from the Côte d’Azur to the Spanish border. Here you will find countless colorful fishing villages, endless beaches, vineyards, and countless olive trees. Even though a stay at Château Capitoul feels far from the inhabited world, you will be in the picturesque fishing village of Gruissan within five minutes. The golden beaches are also just a few minutes away. Looking for a bit more stimulation? Then pay a visit to Narbonne, a small Roman city with a lively promenade, many restaurants and bars, and one of the most beautiful covered markets in France. When you need some exercise, La Clape is the place to be. This 37000-hectare nature park has countless kilometers of hiking and cycling paths. Enjoy the tranquility and silence and admire the spectacular views of the coast and countryside.
Château Capitoul is a luxury castle in Occitanie, just 5 minutes south of Narbonne, near the coast of Languedoc. It is located on the edge of the Massif de la Clape nature park and only 5 minutes from the fishing village and the beaches of Gruissan. The rooms and detached villas offer a beautiful view over the estate.
